Meet Our Providers

Erin Cunningham, CNP

Meet Erin Cunningham, one of the friendly faces you’ll encounter at Cincinnati Integrative Oncology and Functional Medicine. Erin has always had a heart for helping others, especially those navigating the challenges of cancer. Since beginning her career in 2002, her passion for oncology has only grown stronger.

Erin earned her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Xavier University and began her nursing career in Aspen, Colorado, where she cared for pediatric and adult patients with orthopedic injuries and high-altitude-related illnesses. But it wasn’t long before her love for Cincinnati brought her back home. In 2003, Erin joined The Christ Hospital, where she developed her expertise in diverse areas, from medical and surgical units to critical care in the ICU and post-anesthesia recovery.

Driven by her desire to care more deeply for patients, Erin pursued an advanced practice degree while juggling work and family life. In 2013, she graduated with honors from Northern Kentucky University with her Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree—right after welcoming her third child! She then found her true calling in oncology, where she formed deep relationships with her patients during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

For more than a decade, Erin specialized in Hematology and Oncology at The Christ Hospital, gaining significant experience managing complex cancer and blood disorders. Today, she continues her allopathic practice, caring for cancer patients in rural communities while pursuing additional certifications in functional medicine and integrative oncology. Her work combines both worlds—conventional and holistic approaches—to offer compassionate, patient-centered care.

Erin’s professional journey also became personal. After years of unexplained health issues, she discovered—through a functional medicine lens—that she had Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, exacerbated by a gluten sensitivity. This diagnosis marked a turning point. With the guidance of a naturopathic doctor, Erin learned the value of seeking the “root cause” of health problems, fueling her commitment to functional medicine. Now, she’s passionate about helping patients uncover the underlying factors of their health challenges, just as she did for herself.

A Cincinnati native, Erin grew up on the east side and later made her home on the west side with her husband and their three children, along with a golden retriever and two cats. In her downtime, Erin loves to hike, jog, read, experiment with healthy recipes, and spend time with friends and family.

At CIOFM, Erin brings not only her clinical expertise but also her warmth, empathy, and first-hand understanding of the healing power of integrative care. Whether guiding patients through cancer treatment or promoting lifelong wellness, she is dedicated to supporting every aspect of health—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
